At Holiday Claims Bureau, we are currently representing a British family of four who contracted Cryptosporidium, a parasitic infection, during their stay at the Long Beach Hotel in Antalya, Turkey. What is Cryptosporidium and How is it Contracted?
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that can infect the intestines and cause an illness known as cryptosporidiosis. It is typically contracted by swallowing contaminated water – such as from swimming pools or through consuming food washed in contaminated water. The infection can lead to symptoms such as diarrhoea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever, sometimes lasting for several weeks.
Public health experts emphasise that hotel swimming pools, buffet foods, and inadequate hygiene standards are among the most common sources of exposure for holidaymakers abroad.
